Before the 4/4 kick became shorthand for "the future," it was disco, funk, and gospel-trained vocal runs — pioneered and built by women whose names were often overlooked in the mutation of an emerging genre.

The pattern isn't new: material gets made in one register, extracted, renamed, and handed back as an origin point that erases its source.
