Born Tebogo Sedumedi, Aus' Tebza picked up the bass out of necessity at 15 — her band needed one, and no one else could play it — and never put it down. What started as a gap to fill became a twelve-year run as bassist in the late HHP's band, where she shared stages with the likes of Simphiwe Dana, Bucie, Wouter Kellerman, and Proverb, absorbing lessons in musicianship and stagecraft that would shape everything she built afterward.
Beyond the bass, Tebza has quietly built a parallel career as a songwriter, vocalist, and music director — serving as musical director for the Mbokodo Awards and performing as a bassist at the South African Feather Awards, all while writing and arranging for the bands she moved through. Her sound is rooted in the preservation of African music and storytelling, weaving her own experience into traditional 6/8 rhythmic patterns to create something distinctly her own.
After more than a decade of lending her sound to others, Aus' Tebza has stepped fully into her own spotlight — releasing two solo albums and continuing to write and perform under her own name. What began in service of a band has become a formidable force of her own: a bassist, singer, and storyteller commanding her own stage, on her own terms.
ABOUT HER: DIVAS IN CONCERT
HER is Divas in Concert x Untitled Basement's Women's Month live music series, bringing together legendary and emerging South African women artists across nine shows running throughout the month of August. This is the second season of the series, following its debut run in March 2026.
At its core, HER exists to give South African women in music a stage built specifically to hold them — pairing established names with rising voices, and treating each show as both a celebration and a document of the women shaping the country's musical history in real time.
