Nostalgic Reflections with Luthando Madikizela (Baritone)

Luthando Madikizela is a rising South African baritone whose rich voice and captivating stage presence have earned him recognition in the country's classical and opera music scene.

Originally from Bizana in the Eastern Cape, Luthando's musical journey began in school choirs and vocal competitions before continuing through university. He has since refined his artistry under the guidance of renowned vocal coach Mhlaba Buthelezi of Tshwane University of Technology.

His career highlights include performing alongside internationally acclaimed soprano Pumeza Matshikiza, placing second in the African Composition category of the Amazwi Omzansi competition, and producing his own concerts at venues including the Roodepoort Theatre, State Theatre and Tropical Nites Theatre.

In 2026, Luthando achieved a major career milestone with his opera debut as Gcina in Nkoli The Vague, following a successful audition process. The production premiered at the University of Johannesburg before touring to the theatre festival in Chemnitz, Germany, further establishing him as one of South Africa's exciting emerging opera talents.

Luthando will be accompanied by acclaimed pianist Paul Ferreira, whose artistry and sensitive musicianship provide the perfect partnership for this special performance.
