ABOUT

The Friends of Orchestral Music are delighted to present a fundraising Sunset Soiree of music and conversation - in collaboration with Bowmans, featuring breathtaking city views, delicious food and statement wines.

These sparkling evenings take place on the 11th floor of the Bowmans’ Cape Town office, where guests will be greeted to a sunset drink overlooking the city, before settling down to a mix of chamber music featuring some of South Africa’s finest musicians and a fascinating behind-the-scenes conversation about our music industry.

Our next soiree of 2026 focusses on two sides of classical music from the role of radio to the creation of new music with CPO and FMR presenter John Woodland on hand to lead the conversation.

Fine Music Radio's Classic Morning host Rodney Trudgeon will be our guest speaker. Widely known as the Voice of Classical Music - he celebrates 50 years in radio this year and he will reflect on how the presentation of classical music on air has evolved throughout his career. Fine Music Radio recently returned to the City Hall to broadcast the CPO's Symphony Seasons live and Rodney will talk also about some of the challenges this community radio station faces as the only classical and jazz FM radio station of its kind in Africa.

Three musicians who play for the Cape Town Philharmonic will be our guest Trio for the evening. The Mizar Trio - with Louisa Theart on flute, Rosamund Roth on Cello and Dylan Tabisher returning to Bowmans on marimba, are pioneers in commissioning new music and helping to shape a new soundscape in classical music.

The evening begins with a welcome drink from 6.30pm and completes with a sumptuous canape supper, delicious wines and the chance to talk to the musicians after the performance.

Thanks to the generous support of Bowmans and Bill van Rensburg, the Friends of Orchestral music are able to bring you these unique evenings in order to raise much needed funds for the upliftment and development of orchestral music and musicians across Cape Town.

Start time- Thursday 20 August : 6.30 for 7pm. Bowmans’ Cape Town Office, 22 Bree Street, Cape Town. Free Guest parking is available at Bowmans.

Limited tickets for the intimate event are available at a price of R610 per person. (FOM members pay a special price of R510) - with all proceeds going to the Friends of Orchestral Music.
