Workshop 1 - Primal Movement and Fluid Transitions

Primal Movement patterns lead to Fluid Transitions and effortless asana - How can our ancestral movement patterns guide us into efficient and effortless yoga practice?

This practical workshop explores two interconnected themes: the evolution of human form and how functional movement may enter the practice of yoga postures.

Where does movement truly begin?

How does rigidity happen?

How can these question inform the way that we enter and leave and breathe in yoga postures and any other movement patterns?

To answer these questions, we journey back to the origins of movement in life on Earth, tracing and re installing the primal movement programs inherited from mammals, reptiles, and fish. Expect some crawling, creeping, floorwork and partner based "games" to explore how intent creates movement as well as holding patterns.

Understanding this evolutionary history helps illuminate the biological foundations of human crawling and walking, and can significantly inform how we approach yoga postures. By practicing these deep, functional patterns, we can build a yoga practice ( or other excercise practice) that is both stronger and more fluid, integrating stability and integrity into every posture.

Transitions between postures can become beautiful expressions of "tensegrity" - mobile tension and balance. These movements emphasize strength, stability, and relaxed integrity The deeper lessons in the martial stances of yoga are about mental equanimity, and harnessing our inner vital energy.

A key focus of the workshop is redefining what "healthy alignment" of joints truly means. By understanding the natural joint function, we may rewrite some myths for alignment, enabling injury-free yoga practice.

These "experiments" will invite you to challenge ingrained habits and open the door to new, more effective possibilities for movement in yoga and beyond.

As we establish the balance of tension with softness, you can expect to experience some pranic energy that arises through these practices.
