ABOUT

Join architect and watercolour artist Riëtte Kotzé at Chat Noir for a beginner-friendly introduction to watercolour painting.

In this 3-hour workshop, you'll be guided through the fundamentals of watercolour: choosing paper and paints, colour mixing, washes and gradients, tonal values, water control, and essential brush techniques. By the end, you'll have completed your own small watercolour painting.

Riëtte Kotzé is an architect, educator, and watercolour artist with a focus on architectural sketching and expressive painting. She has presented similar workshops to architecture students and enjoys helping beginners build confidence with the medium.

  • Refreshments: water and hot beverages of your choice

What You'll Take Home

  • Two 300gsm practice sheets (one hot-pressed, one cold-pressed)
  • One Size 6 round brush
  • One Size 12 round brush
  • Your own completed A6 watercolour artwork

What to Bring

  • A willingness to experiment
  • Clothes or an apron you don't mind getting paint on (watercolour washes out easily, but it's best to be prepared)

Age: 13+

Experience level: No previous experience needed.

Ticket option: Workshop Ticket — includes the full 3-hour workshop, all materials, coffee and water, two brushes, practice paper, and your finished artwork to take home.
