Expect show-stopping categories, otherworldly fashion, and performers taking you on a journey through time and space. We honor our African heritage while stepping boldly into tomorrow.

CATEGORY DESCRIPTION

1.Beginner Vogue - Trophy

(Walking less than 2 years)

In the future, we don’t fight, we battle it out through vogue. Serve all 5 elements with femininity or drama. Come dressed as a futuristic assassin and let your performance do the damage.

2. Beginner Runway - Trophy

(Walking less than 2 years)

This is where our past creates the future of fashion. Tonight beginner's runway is about arrival. You just landed from the year 3026 and this runway is your first contact with Earth. In a futuristic effect bring the galaxy to the runway.

3. Beginner Face - Trophy

(Walking less than 2 years)

You come from the stars and you are made of light! Beginners face is about inner glow made outer. We are looking for a face that literally lights up the runway. In an iridescent garment show us why your straight white teeth, bone structure and glowing skin can be seen from the stars.

4. OTA Realness - R1000

Diamonds were discovered in 1867, sparking the Kimberley rush and De Beers’ dominance by 1888. For over a century your great-grandparents searched and dug for diamonds that were stolen and sold to the highest bidder. In 3026, you are the great-grandchild who went back and took what was rightfully yours. You must show the diamonds you reclaimed. Your effect must be dripping in diamonds, jewels or rhinestones.

5. Hand Performance - R1000

Story telling is a tool to help imagine and liberate black futures. Come prepared to tell a story inspired by African mythology, folklore, legends or ancestral worlds, but take us somewhere beyond the present. Let your hands become the storytellers. In an opera-length glove create a story that keeps us watching.

6. OTA Face - R1000

Does anyone still wear a hat? In 3026 we do and we take it beyond the stratesphere. Bring it in a hat, headdress or headpiece that highlights your features. You need to make sure the structure of your face is noticed all the way from Jupiter. We are not just searching for a pretty face. We are searching for the future of face!

7. Tag Team Runway - R2000

Imagine a future where royalty still reigns. We want you and your partner to convince us that you both truly belong to the lineage. Come as your own interpretation of African royalty;King, Queen, Prince, Princess, Monarch, Chief or Sovereign. Give us the presence and attitude of someone born to the throne. We want to believe that you are the future of African royalty.

8. OTA Performance - R2000

Voguing is a sacred art form reserved for the most powerful and skilled. We want the best of the best to bring a performance that is uniquely their own. Come in a futuristic and fitted bodysuit made for movement. The cleaner and cuntier the performance the more powerful you become. Bring precision, attitude and your strongest elements.

9. African Performance - R1000

The future is at war, and your greatest weapon is dance. In the great dance battle war, each tribe sends forward its strongest dancer to defend its name. Be ready to bring it to battle until the last warrior reigns supreme. Take inspiration from where we come from, but bring it into the future with your own flavour and interpretation. Don’t forget your country flag.

10. Hair Affair - R1500

For Black to the future, we want to see hair pushed beyond the ordinary. Think exaggerated shapes, intricate braiding, sculptural designs, bold textures, dramatic adornments and futuristic interpretations of African-inspired hair artistry. Add beads, shells, wire, metal, gold, symbols, texture and unexpected materials. Your hair should command attention before you even step onto the floor. A normal hairstyle will be chopped. We are calling for creativity, detail, scale and a clear Afrofuturist vision. If the hair design does not immediately make a statement, it is not HAIR AFFAIR.

11. OTA Body - R1000

Transform your body into a living work of Afro-futuristic art. Use body paint to explore African symbolism, futuristic patterns, tribal-inspired markings and visions of the Black body from the future.

12. Shake That - R500

In the future, shaking ass is the new currency. Forget cash, forget crypto, if you can make it shake, baby, you might just might be rich. This category is calling for all the shakes, bounces, claps, twerks and ass movement you can give. There’s no need to overthink it: if the beat drops, your ass better be moving. The more fun you’re having, the better.

13. Fashion Killa - R1000

Reimagine Willi Ninja’s fashion through an Afrofuturist lens. Take one of his iconic fashion

looks and transport it to the future. Keep the essence of Willi Ninja but make it futuristic andyour own. Bring it with a photo reference of the Willi Ninja look that inspired your creativity.

14. Bizarre - R1000

Avante Garde jazz musician Sun Ra was widely considered the pioneer and godfather of Afrofuturism. He believed he was an alien from Saturn sent to earth on a mission of peace and music. Drawing inspiration from Sun Ray’s out of this world style and ideas, come as your best intergalactic interpretation of an alien creature from mars sent to Cape Town on a mission of cunty domination. Your alien must draw inspiration from African musical tradition.

15. Sex Siren - R1000

Vibranium! The rarest, the most valuable the most unbreakable Metal in the universe and everybody wants a piece of it! Tonight, your body is Vibranium, bring it in a purple look and make sure your skin is glowing and body glistening.

WHAT IS BALLROOM?

Ballroom culture, also known as Ball Culture, was born in the 1980s within New York’s Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ communities. It emerged as a powerful response to exclusion, creating a space where people could be seen, celebrated, and free to express themselves. Today, ballroom is a global movement celebrating identity, resilience, fashion, performance, and community. Participants “walk” in categories ranging from high fashion to dance performance, competing for trophies, prizes, and cultural recognition.

ABOUT HOUSE OF NINJA

The Iconic House of Ninja was founded by Willi Ninja in New York in 1982. It quickly became one of ballroom’s most recognised houses. Through his work in music, fashion and dance, Willi helped bring the house and ballroom community to a wider audience, carrying the Ninja name far beyond New York. The house has continued to grow through generations of Ninjas around the world, keeping alive the sense of family, individuality and excellence that Willi built into the House. Today, that legacy has found a new home in Cape Town, South Africa. Under the guidance of Overall Princess Destiny Ninja, the South African chapter is connecting Willi’s legacy with a fresh generation of talent.
