A Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz (2019) and Fellow at the University of the Western Cape's Centre for Humanities Research, Mlangeni has established himself as a bold composer, trumpeter, and collaborator whose work pushes the boundaries of contemporary jazz.

From touring internationally with Cape Town Opera's acclaimed production of Porgy and Bess to leading the award-nominated Amandla Freedom Ensemble and the globally acclaimed Tune Recreation Committee—named by The New York Times as one of the Best Albums of 2017—his music is a vibrant celebration of heritage, innovation, and fearless improvisation.

There are few DJ duos more enigmatic than ALAN & LEX, based in Cape Town but with a love for music across the

African continent and its diaspora. The power of collaboration between the two unlikely friends, now subject of an

upcoming documentary, has seen them play at some of the city’s most legendary spaces. They have also been played

on radio across the world, driven by a desire to share ‘the warm heart of Africa’ with the world. Alan & Lex’s sets are

ever changing, with a diverse mix of rhumba, soukous, kwaito, zouk, jazz, champeta, Chimurenga, and more.
