Ongehoord: Universiteitskrisis?

Die meeste tersiêre instellings verkeer tans in ‘n krisis. Van die bydraende faktore is neo-liberale en/of tegnokratiese bestuur, KI en 'n aanslag op die kurrikulum (byvoorbeeld vakke wat handel oor diversiteit, inklusiwiteit en gelykheid). Neo-librale bestuur is meer gefokus op uitsette wat in geldterme verreken kan word. Dit dra by tot die minagting en onderfinansiering van die sosiale wetenskappe. Die aanslag op die kurrikulum het weer ‘n regstreekse invloed op gender-, queer- en kritiese rasstudies. Trump se opskorting van finansiering aan dié velde maak die impak ook in ander lande voelbaar. KI dra by tot ‘n krisis met assessering. Iets wat ons almal bekommerd moet maak, is die impak wat dit op die universiteitswese het.

Most tertiary institutions are currently in crisis. Contributing factors include neo-liberal and/or technocratic management, AI, and an assault on the curriculum (for example, subjects dealing with diversity, inclusivity, and equality). Neo-liberal management is more focused on outputs that can be measured in monetary terms. This contributes to the neglect and underfunding of the social sciences. The assault on the curriculum has a direct impact on gender, queer, and critical race studies. Donald Trump’s suspension of funding for these fields makes the impact felt in other countries as well. AI contributes to a crisis in assessment. Something that should concern us all is the impact this has on the university system
