Cape Town Guided Community Hike — Kasteelspoort
Sat Sep 26, 07:30 - Sat Sep 26, 12:30
Kasteelsport - Starting Point
ABOUT
The mountain from the side most people miss.
Kasteelspoort climbs the western flank of the Twelve Apostles, one of Cape Town's most rewarding ascents, and one of its least crowded. While the cable car queues form on the other side of the mountain, you'll be working your way up through ancient fynbos, past house-sized boulders, with the Atlantic Ocean dropping further below you with every step.
This is a proper mountain hike. The climb is steep and sustained, roughly 680 metres of elevation gain over approximately 7km of trail. The gradient increases progressively, with rocky steps and large boulders to navigate as you move higher. It rewards effort. By the time you reach the plateau, you'll have views of Camps Bay, Lion's Head, Clifton Beaches, and the full mountain range laid out behind you, with an opportunity for the brave ones to get their Insta shot on the iconic diving board.
At the top, the remains of an 1890s steam engine cable car sit as a scenic landmark and natural rest stop, the kind of detail that makes this trail feel like more than just a walk.
Your guide leads the pace, reads the group, and knows when to stop and let the mountain do the talking.
