ABOUT

THE BROTHERHOOD OF GREAT HEARTS*

12 JULY 2026 | R250 ON QUICKET, R300 AT THE DOOR | DOORS OPEN 5PM | SHOW STARTS 7PM | UNTITLED BASEMENT, JOHANNESBURG

The Brotherhood of Great Hearts is a gathering of sound, thought, and collective imagination — an ensemble rooted in the evolving archive of South African jazz, creative music, and contemporary composition.

More than a band, The Brotherhood of Great Hearts exists as a living institution: a space where ideas, histories, and musical voices meet.

Drawing from the legacy of Black Consciousness and the pursuit of an egalitarian society, the collective explores the role of music as a vessel for liberation, reflection, and connection.

Gathering under the title of “Brotherhood” — while acknowledging the complexities and limitations of the term — the ensemble extends beyond gendered language toward a greater ideal: a shared humanity anchored in truth, love, and freedom.

In a time of uncertainty, they hold firmly to the call of the “Great Heart” — an ideal of courage, integrity, and devotion to the search for meaning through sound.

This is music that honours the past, engages the present, and imagines new possibilities for the future.

Featuring: Lesedi Ntsane (Trumpet) | Muhammad Dawjee (Tenor Sax) | Kagiso Ramela (Alto Sax) | Nhlanhla Radebe (Double Bass) | Maxwell Baloyi (Piano) | Tumi Mogorosi (Drums)
