ABOUT

Two experienced hikers - though still with more to learn - share of a life in the wilderness. Lessons, light-hearted stories of rescues, things that have gone wrong, and sometimes right. Interactive discussion with audience participation, to learn and interreact with each other.

Eric McLaren, author of Thirty Times Down: A Hiker's Guide to the Fish River Canyon Trail, shares the inspiration behind his guide to one of Southern Africa's most iconic hikes. Drawing on more than thirty descents into the canyon, Eric combines practical trail knowledge with the fascinating history of the region. The book features a six-day hiking guide, advice for planning a successful journey, and a unique pull-out Distance Matrix Chart measuring distances between key locations along the trail.

Steve Chadwick author of A guide to the Helderberg & Hottentots-Holland Mountain Rim has crossed the Greenland ice cap and climbed several of the world big mountain faces, written a book on our local HH mountains, and has had 18 years in a MR team. Steve also has a fascination for the history of early man (going back 900,000 years) in the Helderberg area.

Tickets include a complimentary glass of Poetry wine for guests over 18. Meals and refreshments for sale at Cafe 1865 before and after the event.
