ABOUT

The Kaaps Woriboek (Woordeboek/Dictionary) is a landmark reference text published after 300 years of the formation of the Kaaps language at the Cape. It is only the authoritative reference resource that codified a previously slave lingua-franca into a dictionary and described the spelling system and development of Kaaps words. The book is more than a dictionary. It is also a master class on the design features of Kaaps, providing linguistic and cultural access to one of the oldest languages in South Africa.

In a historic first for Indie Authors Rise Up, Quentin Williams (editor-in-chief) will be in conversation with fellow compiler Theo(dore) Rodrigues, Giareyah Fredericks, Leona Claasen, Veronique Williams, Chevan Van Rooi & Tyron de Villiers. They will delve into the making of the Kaaps Woriboek and what has come from it since its publication. They will also reflect on the future of Kaaps in South Africa.

Come, join us, and be part of the conversation and celebration of Kaaps.

Tickets include a complimentary glass of Poetry wine for guests over 18. Lunches will be for sale at the Imibala Cafe during the lunch break.
