ABOUT
Neighbourhood is a poignant South African play written and directed by award-winning playwright Tiisetso Mashifane wa Noni. It examines spatial apartheid and urban inequality by following the clash between two fictional neighbourhoods: Lindela (an impoverished, informal settlement) and Everwood (an affluent suburb).
Frustrated by empty promises and a lack of affordable housing, the residents of Lindela take matters into their own hands and move into Everwood, forcing the wealthy community to confront the very people who serve them. Through satire and biting everyday realities, the production critiques the limits of middle-class empathy and highlights the fragility of everyday life in South Africa.
