On Sunday 26 July, The Daisy Jones welcomes Afrikaans folk-rock legend Valiant Swart and blues-rock troubadour Jake Gunn for an afternoon of songs, stories and long roads.

For more than three decades, Valiant Swart has occupied a unique place in South African music. Known affectionately as Die Mystic Boer, the Wellington-born songwriter emerged from the Boland alternative scene in the 1990s and helped redefine Afrikaans music through a blend of folk, blues, country-rock and rebellious poetry. Songs like Sonvanger, Eyeshadow, Jakarandastraat and Die Mystic Boer have become woven into the fabric of South African music culture. His career has spanned more than 18 albums, countless festival stages, television work and an Oppikoppi Lifetime Achievement Award.

Sharing the stage is Jake Gunn, one of the Western Cape's finest roots musicians and storytellers. With a voice shaped by blues, Americana and old-school rock and roll, Gunn has built a reputation as a compelling live performer capable of moving effortlessly between intimate storytelling and full-throated musical fire.

Together, the pairing feels natural. The Mystic Boer meets blues-rock fire. Two seasoned road dogs trading songs, swapping stories and exploring the space where folk, blues and rock and roll all began.

Set against the vineyards of Summerhill Wine Estate, this promises to be one of those classic Daisy Jones Sunday afternoons. Good vibes, good company and songs that sound even better as the winter sun starts dropping behind the mountains.
