ABOUT

Understanding the Nervous System: Practical Strategies for Supporting Children and Families

Join Sonja Engelbrecht from Oakley House Training and Support Centre for an insightful and practical virtual webinar presented by Megan Stapelberg, Counselling Psychologist (M.Sc.).

Wednesday 10 June at 7pm | Online ZOOM Meeting

Building on the foundations explored in Megan's podcast discussions, this webinar will provide parents, educators, therapists, and support professionals with a deeper understanding of the nervous system and its impact on behaviour, learning, and emotional wellbeing.

Through a combination of neuroscience-informed theory and practical strategies, participants will explore:

  • A recap of key nervous system concepts
  • Understanding the brain's 'alarm system' and why children become dysregulated
  • Practical techniques for calming the alarm and supporting regulation
  • Strategies for strengthening emotional resilience and self-regulation
  • Creating nervous-system-friendly environments that promote safety, connection, and growth

Drawing on Polyvagal Theory, developmental neuroscience, and attachment science, Megan will equip attendees with tools to better understand behaviour through a compassionate, brain-based lens and help children move from survival mode to thriving.
