ABOUT

Mo Molemi's "Motswako Black Tie"

A night of heritage, rhythm, and celebration. Dress up. Show up. Remember where we come from.

Saturday, 20 June | Doors: 18h00 | Show: 20h00 | After Party: DJ Phat K

Online: R500 | Door: R550

Motswako Black Tie is a celebration of a movement that reshaped South African hip hop — more than two decades of Setswana lyricism, storytelling, and township philosophy that gave an entire generation a language to see itself in. Born in Mahikeng and carried across South Africa and Botswana, Motswako was never just a genre; it became a cultural identity rooted in vernacular pride, sharp lyricism, and social commentary.

At the centre of the evening is Mo'Molemi — widely regarded as one of the movement’s most respected lyricists and architects. Born Motlapele Morule, Mo’Molemi emerged as part of the legendary collective Morafe alongside pioneers such as HHP, Khuli Chana and Towdee Mac, helping define the sound and spirit of Motswako during its formative years.

Known for his poetic command of Setswana, political honesty, and deeply reflective songwriting, Mo’Molemi’s music has always carried substance beyond entertainment — documenting life in Mahikeng, the frustrations of post-apartheid South Africa, and the realities of Black youth navigating identity, ambition, and survival. His collaborations and creative exchanges with artists such as HHP, Khuli Chana, Tuks Senganga, Morafe and Fifi Cooper helped shape the evolution of Motswako into one of the most influential movements in South African hip hop history.

For one night only, audiences will experience Mo’Molemi in a rare live band format — reimagining classic records and deep cuts with warmth, texture, and musical depth. Expect an immersive performance that moves between nostalgia and reinvention: soulful instrumentation, razor-sharp lyricism, storytelling, and the unmistakable energy of a genre that raised a generation. This is not simply a performance; it is a gathering of cultural memory.

The evening continues with an after-party set by DJ Phat K, carrying the spirit of Motswako late into the night with a soundtrack built for celebration, connection, and movement.

Come dressed for the occasion.

This is Motswako — elevated, immortalised, and deserving of black tie.
