THE WHY OF THE EVENT?

Dear friends and family,

We are reaching out with heavy hearts after a traumatic incident that has left our family in a very difficult position.

On Saturday morning, 28 March, at around 11am, Lionel was hijacked in Cape Town. Our car was stolen with everything inside — including his cellphone, our bank cards, IDs, and other essentials. He was taken by five men, forced into the boot of the car, and later left in Philippi, where he was stripped of his clothes and left to fend for himself.

By God’s grace, a kind family took him in, kept him safe, and helped him get to the police station. The car was later recovered, but sadly it was written off.

While we are incredibly grateful that Lionel is alive, we are now facing the harsh reality of losing our only vehicle.

About 2 weeks thereafter we welcomed our 3rd daughter into the world, so much has happened in such a short amount of time.

At the moment, we are relying on the kindness of others for transport. Lionel is deeply involved in the community — he coaches soccer for underprivileged children, often ensuring they get home safely after practice in Mbekweni, and provides music lessons to children who otherwise wouldn’t have access. He is also a musician who depends on reliable transport to attend events.

Anel teaches drama to children aged 6–18 and also needs to travel regularly for work.

Without a vehicle, we are unable to continue earning an income and supporting the communities we care so deeply about.

We are therefore humbly asking for support in raising funds to purchase a secondhand vehicle. Any contribution, big or small, would make a meaningful difference in helping us get back on our feet.

If you are able to assist in any way, or know of a vehicle that could help us during this time, we would be incredibly grateful.

Thank you for your love, support, and prayers during this challenging time.

With gratitude,

Lionel, Anel, Ellie, Daisy & Isla
