ABOUT

Mario Nell

Mario Nell

Triumphant marches from the French organ tradition by Alfred Lefébure-Wély and Théodore Dubois are contrasted with Handel's grand Passacaglia and Alexandre Guilmant's peaceful Berceuse. Nell is the organist of the Toringkerk in Paarl and organ lecturer at the Conservatory in Stellenbosch.

Marches are one of the most popular types of organ works. Most likely because of their infectious rhythm and that are festive showcases for the power of the organ. Each programme contains at least two original marches for organ. Included too are dances, especially those that require high-stepping movements! The Moederkerk's organ is shown in all its power, including it's exquisitely unique varities of sound. Clouse-ups of the organist's hands and feet will be on the screens. This year's organists are from Stellenbosch, Cape Town and Pretoria.
