ABOUT
Barnard, in partnership with SM Communications, invites young and emerging musicians to the Rising Young Artists Musicians’ Clinic on Saturday, 20 June 2026.
This practical clinic is designed to help artists better understand the business of music, from music rights, contracts and intellectual property to the business decisions that can shape a sustainable career. The session will also include guidance from industry guests on how music is submitted, reviewed and considered for radio platforms.
Attendees can look forward to a music business discussion, a listening session, and the opportunity to submit their music for review through the SABC music submission process.
The clinic will be facilitated by Sakhele Mzalazala, with speakers and guests including Izah Kutsh from Black Labone, Patrick Matoro from the SABC Library, Jombana Lamula from Radio 2000, and Aletia Oberholster, IP Lawyer at Barnard.
Whether you are recording, performing, releasing, promoting or still figuring out your next move, this clinic offers practical insight to help you protect your work, understand the industry better and take your music more seriously as a business.
