ABOUT
Classical Concerts in the heart of the City
Friday 11th September celebrates music in the heart of the city where two icons meet.
Dizu Plaatjies - celebrated South African Xhosa musician, founder of Amampondo, and leader of Ibuyambo, brings the music from his Dosini clan dating back to the 15th century alongside the music of Johann Sebastian Bach from 18th century with renowned viola/violinist Gareth Lubbe for one special evening.
The concert forms part of a fundraiser for the Cathedral and their Unplugged series of concerts which takes place during the summer to bring music to the heart of the city in the iconic and historical surroundings of St George's Cathedral.
The Concert will be free of charge as the Cathedral remains an open space for all, but donations are encouraged as you can afford.
Facility for credit card and cash will be available at the door, but you can reserve your attendance and make a donation in advance here via Quicket
The St George’s Unplugged was established with two primary objectives:
- To connect individuals to the historic and spiritual surroundings of St George’s Cathedral, offering an in-depth experience through music, with immediate support being raised through donations collected at the door to assist with maintenance and repairs.
- To connect people living in and visiting Cape Town to the diverse and high-quality classical music industry present throughout the year.
