ABOUT
Old Nectar Concerts welcomes the violinist Miclen LaiPang and pianist Megan-Geoffrey Prins for a programme celebrating the operatic soul of the violin at Old Nectar gardens historic wine cellar in Jonkershoek. Inspired by the emotional depth, theatricality, and expressive power of opera, this concert programme explores the many dimensions of love, longing, passion and transcendence through music that allows the violin to sing with extraordinary freedom. From the bittersweet farewell of Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin to the nostalgic elegance of Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier, from the fiery drama of Carmen to the luminous serenity of Morgen, the programme brings the grandeur of the operatic stage into the intimate setting of violin and piano.
Violinist Miclen LaiPang has swiftly emerged as one of the most compelling and versatile artists of his generation, earning global acclaim as a soloist, chamber musician, concertmaster, and educator. Praised by The New York Times as “a force to be reckoned with” and hailed by Germany’s Die Welt as “a musician of daring virtuosity with gripping access and noble elegance,” Miclen has performed as a soloist with leading orchestras and graced the world’s premier venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Vienna Musikverein, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, and St. Martin in the Fields.
Pianist Megan-Geoffrey Prins is recognised as one of South Africa’s leading collaborative pianists and chamber musicians, acclaimed for his sensitivity, versatility, and commanding artistry.
