Likwezi Arts and café Roux proudly present A Legacy in Every Note — a special celebration honoring two decades of musical collaboration and friendship between celebrated South African saxophonist and acclaimed American guitar virtuoso .
Their musical journey began over 20 years ago, forged through a shared passion for jazz, African rhythms, and improvisation. Over the years, the two artists have travelled between South Africa and the United States, performing together in renowned venues, festivals, and intimate listening spaces, building a friendship that transcends borders and generations. Their connection is reflected in every performance — a conversation between saxophone and guitar shaped by decades of trust, creativity, and musical excellence.
Now, this remarkable partnership comes to the intimate stage of café Roux in the beautiful Farm Village setting, where every note can be fully experienced and appreciated. Audiences are invited to witness a rare meeting of masters in a warm atmosphere known for exceptional live music, delicious meals, fine drinks, and unforgettable moments.
Joining these legendary musicians are two of Cape Town’s finest rhythm section players — talented bassist and dynamic drummer — promising an evening rich in groove, storytelling, and world-class musicianship.

About the Musicians
A towering figure in South African jazz, McCoy Mrubata is internationally respected for his powerful saxophone sound and deep connection to African musical traditions. A multi-award-winning composer and performer, he has spent decades shaping the South African jazz landscape through groundbreaking collaborations and global performances.
Gary Wittner is an accomplished American guitarist celebrated for his expressive playing, rich harmonic style, and adventurous improvisation. His music seamlessly blends contemporary jazz with global influences, making him a respected figure on international stages and a longtime collaborator of McCoy Mrubata.
Sibusiso Matsimela is one of Cape Town’s most versatile and respected bass players. Known for his deep musical sensitivity and commanding groove, he has performed alongside many leading jazz artists across South Africa and continues to be a vital presence in the country’s live music scene.
Joshua Klein is a gifted drummer whose dynamic style and rhythmic precision have made him a sought-after collaborator in contemporary jazz circles. His energetic yet nuanced approach brings freshness and excitement to every performance.
