The Odeion School of Music celebrates 80 years of musical excellence with a special chamber music concert.
The evening features the acclaimed Odeion String Quartet — South Africa’s only resident university string quartet — joined by celebrated clarinettist Danré Strydom and pianist Nicolene Gibbons. Together they present two beloved masterpieces of the chamber repertoire: Clarinet Quintet in A major, K. 581 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44 by Robert Schumann.
Founded in 1991, the Odeion String Quartet has become a celebrated force in South African classical music, earning numerous national awards and performing at major arts festivals across the country. The quartet currently consists of Samantha Durrant, Sharon de Kock, Jeanne-Louise Moolman and Anmari van der Westhuizen.
Danré Strydom is recognised as one of South Africa’s leading clarinettists, with an international performing and teaching career spanning Europe, the United States and South Africa.
Nicolene Gibbons, an internationally trained pianist and composer, returned to South Africa after an extensive career in the United Kingdom and currently lectures in piano at the UFS.
