…a fabulous night of sculpting clay, sipping wine & socializing with other sapphics!
This isn't your average pottery class. And it's not just a good party. It's BOTH.
This is a celebration of creativity and queer joy!
There’ll be welcome drinks, great food on special and a guided pottery demo & workshop before you settle in with your fellow sapphics and get your hands dirty.
You'll have plenty of time to make your clay masterpiece (the naughtier the better) before we vote for the night’s favourite creation (with a prize valued at R1250)
…then we'll turn the lights down and the music up for the after party.
We've got the venue to ourselves for this private event, to ensure a Queer-friendly safe space for us to connect and let our hair down.

Is this a pottery workshop?
Not exactly. That’s why we decided to call it Queer Clay Social – it’s a gathering for queer women and gender-diverse people to meet, make friends and build community. Arts & Crafts are a great way to connect with others because making something together breaks the ice better than almost anything else. The bonus is, we get to be creative and create a piece of handmade pottery as well!
Do I need pottery experience?
Not even a little. Most people who come to our events have never touched clay before. We'll show you everything you need to know.
Who is this for?
Queer, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual and trans women, non-binary and gender diverse people who feel at home in a sapphic space. If that's you, or if you’re just questioning, you're welcome here!
Is this a dating event?
No, it's a community event! We want to create space for the queer & sapphic community to connect and have a good time. Come solo, with your partner, a friend or your whole crew.
What if I come on my own?
Please do! Lots of people will. One of the reasons we created Queer Clay Social was because it can be surprisingly hard to meet other queer women and gender-diverse people outside of bars or dating apps. Clay gives everyone something to do with their hands, so conversations happen naturally.
Is this only for young people?
Not at all! There’s no age limit on being part of the Queer community. Whether you’re 18 or 68, you’re welcome! (no under 18s for this one, though).
What's included in the ticket price?
There are three types of tickets, to make this financially accessible for more people: Top, Bottom & Switch (IYKYK).
Top: includes all your clay and tools, guidance from experienced pottery teachers and a free welcome drink. You can order yummy food and drinks throughout the evening from Mango Ginger (they’re doing some Sapphic Specials for us).
Bottom: includes all of the above, plus glazing & firing of your pottery piece. You can collect it within a few weeks time and keep it as a memento of your awesome night.
Switch: includes everything in the top & bottom ticket plus dinner (Sapphic Special).
All tickets also give you entry into the contest at the end of the evening where everyone votes on their favourite pottery creation of the night and the winner gets a prize valued at R1250.
What pottery will I make?
You'll hand-build your own pottery piece using beginner-friendly techniques. There are no pottery wheels and no pressure to make anything perfect.
What should I wear?
Anything comfortable – we’ll provide aprons and clay washes out easily, but we'd avoid your favourite white outfit!
Do I need to bring anything?
Nope. Just yourself. We'll take care of the rest.
Can I buy my ticket at the door?
Unfortunately not; due to us needing to prepare enough clay and materials for everyone, we need to know our numbers in advance. Spots are also limited to under 20 people, so make sure you book your ticket before they’re all gone!
Do you offer refunds?
No, due to the limited number of spots, we can’t offer refunds. You are, however, welcome to transfer your ticket or send someone else in your place. Just get in touch with us to let us know.
Will there be alcohol?
Yes, there will be a welcome drink as well as a limited range of alcoholic drinks if you’d like to order more after that. Mango Ginger also has lots of great non-alcoholic options and delicious smoothies.
Can I smoke?
Yes, there is a smoking section outside. But if you’re talking about 420, that may need to happen elsewhere. And there’s a zero tolerance policy for illegal substances.
Why aren’t men who identify as gay, trans, bisexual or gender diverse included?
For this event, we’re focusing on creating a safe space for queer women and gender diverse people because there’s sadly too few events of this kind. But we definitely want to host events in the future to include everyone in the rainbow alphabet!
Is this becoming a regular thing?
We hope so, but it’s not a guarantee. Our vision is for Queer Clay Social to become a monthly gathering—a creative third space where our community can keep coming back, meet new people and feel at home. The more people who attend this time, the more events like this we can arrange, so please support!
