Experience an afternoon of timeless music, rich vocals, and unforgettable songs as Selim Kagee brings Il Mondo to the George Arts Theatre.
Selim Kagee’s journey into music did not begin with early acceptance or opportunity. Rejected from his school choir and unsuccessful in securing roles in community theatre productions, a professional singing career once seemed unlikely. That path changed at the age of 20 after a chance meeting with a retired opera singer who recognised potential in his voice and encouraged formal training.
What followed was more than a decade of intensive study in the classical Bel Canto tradition, forming the foundation of a career that would take him from local theatre productions to international stages.
Today, Kagee performs for audiences across Europe, North America, Australia and beyond as a headline entertainer aboard leading ultra-luxury cruise lines.
His career highlights include a recording collaboration with Grammy-nominated Celtic Woman, a major-label recording contract with EMI Records, performances of national anthems for internationally televised rugby fixtures involving South Africa, Wales and New Zealand, and a sold-out run of his Il Mondo production at Montecasino in Johannesburg under acclaimed theatre producer Pieter Toerien.
Now he returns to the Garden Route with Il Mondo, a concert celebrating some of the most beloved songs of the twentieth century.
The programme includes Il Mondo, Always On My Mind, And I Love You So, and Bridge Over Troubled Water, woven together with personal stories from his international career and musical journey.
Accompanied by pianist Drini Botha and violinist Calvin Steyn, and set against sweeping orchestral arrangements, Il Mondo blends classical vocal technique with the warmth and familiarity of timeless popular songs.
Audiences consistently describe the experience as deeply moving and unforgettable:
