Suits & Sneakers presents: "Only the Brave" with Pierre Du Plessis

Suits & Sneakers hosts several events each month in Joburg, each featuring a different guest and theme. The idea is to create a space for ongoing learning that helps you broaden your thinking in a fast-changing world. This event will be hosted on the evening of Tuesday, 12 May, at The Tryst in Kramerville.

WHAT IS THIS EVENT ALL ABOUT?

We often think of strategy as a cold, analytical process filled with spreadsheets and projections but the reality is far more human. Real strategy is actually just brave decision-making. The problem is that most of us are stuck. We are caught in a loop of fear, chaos, and doubt, terrified of getting it wrong or being judged by those around us. So, we hesitate. We outsource our life’s direction to systems, to other people, or simply to time, hoping things will eventually just work out.

On Tuesday, 12 May, Pierre Du Plessis joins us for a session titled "Only the Brave." This is a confrontation with the most important question we ever face: what will you do with this one wild and precious life? Pierre moves past the surface-level noise to introduce a framework that helps you identify what you actually want to do, and then forces you to work through that answer across four challenging dimensions.

Make no mistake, this is not a motivational talk. Pierre describes this session as being more like a hospital than a spa. It is direct, honest, and at times, intentionally uncomfortable. It is designed for those who are tired of playing it safe and are ready to reset their direction, take full ownership of their choices, and move forward with actual courage. Pierre is the founder of Be Brave, a Strategy Design Lab that helps businesses and people find clarity in the chaos. With over two decades of experience developing people, building products, and designing strategies, Pierre blends ancient wisdom, systems thinking, and gut feels to create brave roadmaps for the future.

He’s spoken on four TEDx stages, written four books, won the Desmond Tutu Gerrit Brand prize for literature, worked with global brands like Tencent, BP, Yum!, Allan Gray, and HATCH, and delivered keynotes all around the world, that feel more like conversations around a campfire than boardroom lectures.

Part strategist, part modern-day philosopher, Pierre holds a Master’s in Systematic Theology and is fascinated by what it means to be human in an age of machines. He lives in Cape Town with his wife and two kids and when he is not reading or lifting weights, enjoys doom-scrolling.
