With train adventures running from Durban Station (Premier Lounge) to Shongweni Farmers & Craft Market, Salt Rock/Sugar Rush Park, and Pietermaritzburg Station on New Year’s Eve.

Without a doubt, Shongweni is one of the most highly regarded and diverse farmers markets in South Africa. And Its right on your doorstep – a mere sixty minutes up-the-line when you climb aboard the upmarket ‘Holiday Express’.
Fresh garden produce, home-baked products, fabulous floral arrangements, creative crafts and fabrics, homebrew beers and wines, cheeses, chutneys, sauces; scrumptious desserts and delectable fast food stalls. On top of this, there are ample open spaces and playgrounds to keep the small fry safely entertained. And all of this just a comfortable one-hour train trip up the line from Durban.
Registration on day of departure will be in the Premier Business Lounge at Durban Railway Station. The Premier Business Lounge can be accessed up the ramp from Jeff Taylor Crescent, which is between Umgeni Road and Masabalala Yengwa Avenue (previously NMR Avenue), just to the north of Durban’s central business district, and not far from the intersection with Somtseu Road. Secure, boom-protected parking is available to Holiday Express clients, up the ramp on the second floor just outside the entrance to the Lounge.
The route inland passes through two tunnels and stops will be made at the waterfalls to allow passengers to take photographs.
A range of refreshments, including wine, beer, soft drinks, biltong, peanuts and chips etc. will be available on the train. Remember to purchase your cash vouchers at registration. You are also welcome to bring your own refreshments with you.
For the comfort of all passengers no smoking is allowed on the trains.
At this time of the year it should be warm. Suggest you dress accordingly, but bring something warm should the conditions change.
Delicious snacks, pastries, light meals and refreshments, including a wide range of locally brewed craft beers will also available from the many stalls in the market.
The Holiday Express also caters for a wide range of corporate clients. During October, November and December the Express will be available for corporate groups.
