ABOUT

Kagiso Mathole, professionally known as Zell Beige, is a jazz-rooted artist from Hammanskraal, South Africa, whose music blends elements of soul, hip-hop, and blues into a rich and emotionally expressive sound. Influenced by her father’s deep love for jazz, she was surrounded by its sound from an early age, which later became the foundation of her musical identity.

Her stage name carries both personal and artistic meaning. The name “Zell” was given to her by her sister after witnessing her perform as a child, marking a defining moment in herjourney. Inspired by artists such as Erykah Badu and India Arie, she adopted “Beige” to complete her identity, reflecting individuality and creative influence.Zell Beige’s music is guided by emotion and sound. Her creative process begins with melody, allowing the feeling of the music to shape the direction of each song before lyrics are written. This intuitive approach results in music that is authentic, layered, and emotionally resonant, often blending jazz with elements of soul, hip-hop, and blues.

At the heart of her artistry is a commitment to positivity and healing. She creates music that uplifts and comforts, reminding listeners that even in difficult moments, there is hope. Her work encourages gratitude and challenges societal expectations around success, identity, and happiness. She describes her music as “a hug,” meant to reassure and restore emotional balance. Zell Beige stands out for her grounded nature and emotional honesty. She embraces life’s uncertainties and uses both her struggles and joys as a way to connect deeply with her audience. Her authenticity allows her to create music that not only reflects real experiences

but also inspires resilience and hope.

Rather than writing solely from personal experience, she often creates from a place of vision and aspiration. She writes about emotions and realities she has not yet experienced, only to see them manifest later in her life. She believes her creativity is spiritually guided, forming a strong foundation for her artistic journey.

Although her academic path initially led her toward becoming a teacher, Zell Beige chose to follow her passion for music. Her training at the State Theatre provided her with a strong artistic foundation, after which she began building her career independently through performances, collaborations, and personal projects.

Zell Beige continues to shape her path as an artist dedicated to healing, authenticity, and emotional connection. Through her music, she aims to leave listeners with a powerful message that no matter how uncertain life may feel, everything will eventually be okay.
