ABOUT

Suits & Sneakers hosts several events each month in Joburg, each featuring a different guest and theme. The idea is to create a space for ongoing learning that help you broaden your thinking in a fast changing world. This event will be hosted on the evening of Tuesday, 21 April, at The Tryst in Kramerville.

WHAT IS THIS EVENT ALL ABOUT?

We all know we "should" be more grateful. We hear the advice constantly but we often treat gratitude as a fleeting thought rather than a deliberate action. We acknowledge something good for a split second before the reality of life drags us back to our problems, our stress, and the chaos of daily life.

On Wednesday, 15 April, Mark Sham is hosting an evening dedicated entirely to the practice of gratitude. You can read every study on emotional well-being, but the benefits only kick in when you actually move from theory to practice. While the first bit of the session will involve setting the context, the majority of our time together will be spent in a workshop-style practice. We are going to stop talking about gratitude and actually start doing it.

We will be going through a series of deep, guided practices designed to move you past the surface level. This is about quiet focus, vivid visualisation, and intentional action. It is a raw and practical session for anyone who is tired of the clichés and wants to experience the literal life-changing impact of going deep.

Important: Please bring a notepad and a pen with you. You will be using them throughout the session.

Ultimately, this evening is about closing the gap between what we know and how we actually live. If you want to change the trajectory of your emotional well-being, you have to be willing to do the work in the room.

MORE ABOUT MARK SHAM

Mark Sham is the founder of Suits & Sneakers and a vocal advocate for the power of informal, self-directed learning. At 41, he’s the first to admit he’s still winging it, learning through trial, error, and a relentless curiosity about what it actually takes to stay relevant today.
