The Ntu Collective
Hailing from the vibrant streets of Pretoria, The Ntu Collective is a powerful new voice in South African jazz comprised of former UP and TUT students. Formed in 2023 by brothers Nhlalontle and Njabulo, the band fuses contemporary jazz with the rich rhythms, melodies, and spiritual depth of African and indigenous South African music. Their sound is rooted in the soil of the continent think warm brass lines that echo traditional horns, polyrhythms that nod to marabi and mbaqanga, and improvisational freedom that feels both ancient and brand new.
Ubuntu — the profound African philosophy that says, “I am because we are.” In a world that often celebrates the individual, Ntu stands for the collective: the idea that true humanity is found in community, shared purpose, and mutual upliftment.
