ABOUT

Join us at Dweba Art & Café on Friday, May 1st, for the grand inauguration of our monthly music series. Set within our gallery at 167 Longmarket Street, this evening fuses world-class live music with curated contemporary art, offering an intimate encounter with the vanguard of South African sound.

The Main Act: Thembi Dunjana

We are honored to host the award-winning jazz pianist and vocalist, Thembi Dunjana. A double Mzantsi Jazz Award winner, Thembi masterfully blends hard-swinging jazz traditions with neo-soul and Cape Town’s iconic Ghoema rhythms. Her performance celebrates identity and collective joy, echoing the influence of icons like McCoy Tyner and Moses Molelekwa.

Opening Act: Anathi Swaphi

Starting the evening is the rising Afro-soul/Afro-pop star Anathi Swaphi. Hailing from Centane and now based in Cape Town, Anathi brings a powerful, heritage-inspired voice to the Dweba stage. Following the success of his motivational 2024 single "Kuzobamnandi" and his 2025 breakout EP "Imizila Yothando," his unique blend of soulful melodies and African rhythms provides the perfect prelude to the night’s festivities.
