MABONGI THUSI & THE OAKS


Join us for a special gathering of music, as Mabongi Thusi debuts her latest project, Family Affair. The basis of offering is in the name, with Mabogni being joined by her family, blood and chosen to give us this unique experience of music and community.


Mabongi Thusi is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and community builder who hails from Kwa-Zulu Natal and is currently based in Cape Town. Mabongi is the lead singer of the band Mabongi Thusi & The OAK. The family band, who are also three time Victory Gospel Awards nominees, consists of herself and her sons; Owethu Ndwandwe (piano), Zwide Ndwandwe (bass) and Khanya Ndwandwe (electric guitar). Mabongi Thusi and her sons released their first album, SINGABEZULU, in 2015 and their second album Vimbani: Live at The SABC Auditorium in 2019.


Their music combines the sounds of Jazz and traditional African music from different parts of the continent. Mabongi writes and sings in multiple African languages including IsiZulu, Sesotho, Lingala and Shona, Swahili. In 2017, Mabongi Thusi started crowdfunding project to open up a music program for students atInkwenkwezi High School, located in the community of Du Noon, Cape Town. The program was successfully launched when enough resources were gathered in 2018 to provide the school with their own set of marimbas, allowing Mabongi and her sons to give students of the high school their very first lessons with musical instruments. Mabongi believes in using her music, as well as her platform, to address societal issues. Mabongi prides herself in being involved with various community based projects that are looking to bring progress, justice and healing.


Doors open at 3pm show starts at 4pm.
