This Mandela Month, join African Synergy Health (ASH) for the ASH Mandela 6.7KM Long Walk to Healthcare Freedom — a public movement bringing together healthcare professionals, institutions, partners, supporters, families, and communities in a collective call for dignity, access, and healthcare freedom across South Africa.

The walk forms part of the broader 2026 ASH Surgical Marathon, a 23-day nationwide initiative taking place throughout July in collaboration with hospitals, surgeons, nurses, healthcare professionals, and strategic partners across multiple provinces. Together, the initiative aims to help reduce surgical backlogs and restore dignity through access to life-changing surgical care.

Across South Africa, thousands of patients continue waiting months — and sometimes years — for critical surgical procedures.

The waiting cannot continue.

The Long Walk to Healthcare Freedom exists to raise awareness, inspire collaboration, encourage public participation, and mobilise support toward improving healthcare access for those still waiting.

Whether you walk in support of a loved one, a patient, a healthcare worker, or simply because you believe healthcare access matters, every step taken becomes part of something larger than a single event.
