Janus: Looking Back, Looking Forward
Liesl Stoltz, Flute and Jose Dias, Piano
The Helderberg Village Music Society is delighted to present a musical afternoon with acclaimed pianist Jose Dias and leading South African flautist Liesl Stoltz.
A favourite among Helderberg audiences, José Dias is known for his expressive playing and engaging stage presence. He is joined by Liesl Stoltz, an internationally respected flautist whose artistry and elegance have captivated audiences both locally and abroad.
Inspired by Janus (January), the Roman god of transitions and new beginnings, this is a recital of visionary masterpieces for flute and piano: unique works and composers that built upon the great traditions of the past to look forward and pave the way for the musical future.
The programme features:
- Sonata in E-flat major for Flute and Harpsichord, BWV 1031JS Bach
- Introduction, Theme and Variations on “Trockne Blumen”,F Schubert from Die Schöne Müllerin, Op.160, D 802(1797-1828)
- Grand Polonaise in D Major for Flute and Piano, Op.16T Boehm (1794-1881)
- Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, C Debussy arr. for flute and piano by G Samazeuilh(1862-1918)
- Sonatine for Flute and Piano, H Dutilleux
The artists will introduce the works during the performance, offering personal insights that enrich the listening experience.
