Young Artist, Christian-Peter Hiemstra, Piano Recital

Old Nectar Concerts welcomes the remarkable young pianist Christian-Peter Hiemstra, to Old Nectar gardens’ historic wine cellar in Jonkershoek. Now fifteen, he has already received international recognition as a laureate of several major competitions, including the International Piano Competition for Young Pianists Kronberg, the Neuchâtel International Piano Competition, the United Kingdom Rotary Young Musician Competition, and the South African National Youth Music Competition. In 2024 he also received the Italian Rospigliosi International Primo Premio Assoluto and Audience Choice Awards for chamber musicians under 35.

Christian-Peter began playing the piano at the age of five and was admitted to the Royal College of Music in London at just nine years old. He now studies with Benedek Horváth at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel and has performed across the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Lithuania and South Africa.

His programme at Old Nectar moves from the elegance of Mozart to the expansive virtuosity of Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata, the poetic imagination of Schumann’s Fantasiestücke, the rhythmic brilliance of Bartók’s Suite for Piano, and concludes with Liszt’s profound Vallée d’Obermann from Années de pèlerinage.

Tickets are R200 per person and include selected wines from Banhoek’s acclaimed Oldenburg Wine Estate as well as finger food during the interval. Student and learner tickets are available at the door for R50. Guests are encouraged to arrive early or linger afterward to enjoy the serene beauty of the Old Nectar gardens.
