ABOUT
Daniel John Martin is a Paris-based violinist devoted to jazz. Trained and inspired by legendary mentors including Stéphane Grappelli, Didier Lockwood, and Jean-Luc Ponty, Martin has built a distinctive voice that bridges gypsy jazz tradition with modern jazz expression.
He is currently releasing the latest opus of his compositions written for jazz quintet and string quartet on the French label Continuo Musique. This recording, featuring renowned guitarist Robben Ford, marks his seventh album.
Although widely recognised for his work in the French gypsy jazz tradition, Martin’s latest project, “Pardon My French,” revisits his earlier compositions from a period when he was deeply influenced by fusion and jazz-rock.
On this occasion, Daniel John Martin will be joined by pianist David Cousins and bassist Viwe Mkizwane for a special performance in Johannesburg. Together, they will share their passion for jazz standards alongside a selection of original compositions.
This promises to be a unique and intimate jazz session in Jo’burg, before Martin returns to Paris.
