We are inspired by traditional community events held in small villages in Northern France. The Mussels served ,are not picked on our beaches, although they do grow here, for we have chosen farmed mussels from the West Coast, because their controlled harvest is more sustainable.

THIS YEAR We trying something different for the kids...

As you might experienced at the Scarborough Fair, Merike Meiring will be holding sound space for your kids at this year’s Mussel Festival. Holding space for kids is a divine task of allowing the spark of Life to feel nurtured enough to become an ember, and burn into a flame. And Merike has that careful attentiveness that does not merely watch over your young loved ones, but actively cultivates their spark to see their Light shine brighter, feeling held and appreciated for the unique presence they bring into this world. Her approach is one informed by her passion for Somatic Wellness and Regenerative Cultures. Recommended donation of R50/30min supports her to support you to have the freedom to enjoy the festival knowing your little ones are having as much fun as you (and possibly even more - you may even feel to join us!) Payable on the day Cash only please.

Scarborough is an official suburb of Cape Town but the remoteness of the area, its recent but dynamic history, and the generosity and know-how of its residents have enabled our village to run differently to others suburbs in terms of self sustainability and resilience. We are proud to have slowly and independently grown a model that can compare itself to a Transition Town or other urban transformation models in other countries. In addition to the pillars we mention, this connectivity has also provided a platform for many other organizations and individuals to participate and innovate in community building and bridging, for example Red Hill Library and Food projects, Scarborough and Red Hill Animal Rescue… local music, art, and wholesome living events organizers, local goods and services suppliers, as well as wildlife, parenting, women and lift groups, etc…

There will be a tuckshop with veg hotdogs & borrie rolls & other yummy things for those still hungry or don't eat mussels !

Come have a delicious and connecting time with us!

Much gratitude from all of us at

The Scarborough Mussel Festival team
