ABOUT

Neighbourgood x Friends For The Apocalypse Present: Word Play

A 2-Hour Creative Writing Playground

What if writing wasn't about getting it right, but about getting loose? What if the page was just another place to play?

Word Play is a 2-hour creative writing workshop - part playground, part creative laboratory - where games, embodiment, and collaborative chaos are the method.

Together we will move between solo and group activities, between stillness and movement, between structure and wild abandon - discovering unexpected pathways towards your creative voice.

Forget everything you think you know about "creative writing workshops." This isn't about craft or critique. This is about remembering that creativity is a state of being, not a skill to master.

What We'll Do:

Word Games & Constraints: Experiments to trick the brain into surprise

Embodiment: Brief somatic practices - breath, movement, sensation - as portals into different creative states before we write

Group Activities: Where we build on each other's ideas for unexpected collaborations

Free Dive: Spacious, unstructured writing time where anything goes

Optional Sharing: An invitation (never a requirement) to read aloud in pairs or to the group

The Vibe:

Expect laughter. Expect mess. Expect to write things you didn't know were in you. This workshop holds space for both the profound and the ridiculous - often in the same sentence. The container is warm, the pace is dynamic, and the only rule is: there are no bad ideas, only interesting experiments.

Who This Is For:

  • Anyone who thinks they "can't write" or hasn't written since school
  • Writers who feel stuck and want to play their way back to joy
  • People curious about the intersection of body and creativity
  • Humans who want to spend two hours doing something completely different
  • Anyone seeking creative community and permission to be weird

No experience necessary. No pressure. No performance. Just play.

Logistics:

  • We'll be hosted at Neighbourgood's beautiful coworking space in Bree Street
  • A menu will be available to order brunch from the restaurant next door
  • Please bring your notebook, pen and curiosity
