B.B.P.D Art Exhibition V.2

Blakk By Popular Demand (B.B.P.D) is a collective experiment in showcasing local “rawthentic” art, craft, and design—work that exists beyond the mainstream yet carries distinctive cultural voice and creative integrity.

“Blakk By Popular Demand” functions not as a restriction or prerequisite, but as an open thematic prompt. Participants are invited to interpret, question, and expand the idea through their work—exploring identity, materiality, and expression across disciplines.

The second installment will take the form of a one-day showcase and exhibition hosted at the Ellis House Art Building on 28 March 2026. The programme brings together a curated group of collaborators, including one performing artist, one featured maker (artist, craftsperson, or designer), eight co-exhibitors, and three DJs, each contributing their practice and perspective to shape a shared creative intervention.

The showcase is intentionally intimate and curated rather than a conventional open public event. Entry is free but strictly by invitation or RSVP, allowing for a focused audience experience and meaningful engagement with the work.

Blakk By Popular Demand continues to explore collaborative curation as a platform for emerging and under-recognized creative voices within Johannesburg’s independent art ecosystem.
