ABOUT

Peeling Shadows is the latest Naledi Award winning theatrical experience from The 3rd Theatre Collective, born out of their time at Kwasha! Theatre Company’s 2020 internship program. This endearing play follows the infamous Pamela Jack, a disgraced detective on a quest for redemption after fumbling South Africa’s most notorious corruption cases linked to the Gumede Family. After being let go by the South African Police force, due to her incompetence, Boang, a mute child, bravely goes in search of Pamela Jack. Little does Pamela know, Boang holds the key she needs to crack the Gumede case, and will inadvertently show Pamela a whole new paranormal world that lays behind the Gumede family crimes.

Peeling Shadows is a family show inspired by the pervasive South African Urban Legends that reside in our collective consciousness, the collective desires for justice and the concerns we as South Africans have regarding the current controversies in our police force and justice systems. Dubbed a: “Comedic theatrical visual illustration”, the play blends cartoon & theatre aesthetics by making use of projection, live illustration, shadow theatre, mime, caricature & music to tell an unforgettable story on redemption, classism and justice. Peeling Shadows aims to open minds, wash eyes and playfully point to the current crises in our law enforcement agencies, to teach an important lesson to younger generations on corruption, the importance of justice in a community and the importance of moral integrity in the individual.
