ABOUT
This special Convening marks 10 years of the Hasso Plattner d-school Afrika at the University of Cape Town: A moment of reflection together with educators, leaders, and emerging voices from across the continent. This gathering invites collective sense-making and critical dialogue around Afrikan-centred design thinking, guided by the lenses Remember, Reframe, Rethink, Resolve, and Regenerate.
A key milestone will be the launch of the Afrikan Chapter of the Global Design Thinking Alliance,a significant step in elevating Afrikan visibility, collaboration and contribution within global design thinking communities.
The event is hybrid, with limited in-person places and a curated online experience.
PROGRAMME
Monday 1 June: Full day Convening, evening at leisure
Tuesday 2 June: Morning Convening, Afternoon excursion, 10-year Celebration Reception
Wednesday 3 June: Full day Convening, evening at leisure
Thursday 4 June: Optional, recommended Action Day for follow-up workshops / meetings
IMPORTANT TRAVEL INFORMATION
Visa Requirements Most visitors from the UK, USA, EU, Australia, and many African nations are visa-exempt for stays up to 90 days. However, requirements vary by nationality.
- Please check your specific visa status via the South African Department of Home Affairs.
- e-Visa: If you require a visa, you may be eligible for the South African e-Visa or the new ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) system, which can be applied for online.
- Invitation Letters: If you require a formal Letter of Invitation for your visa application, please tick the box in the Personal Information section of this form.
Passport Validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 30 days after your intended date of departure from South Africa and must contain at least two consecutive blank pages for entry/exit stamps.
Yellow Fever: A certificate is required only if you are traveling from or through a yellow fever risk zone.
CANCELLATIONS
All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to [email protected]
Each request will be acknowledged within 24 hours of receipt. If you do not receive a confirmation within this timeframe, please contact us immediately as your original email may not have reached our team.
All refunds will be processed minus any applicable bank or credit card transaction fees.
- Substitutions: Registrations may be transferred to a colleague at no additional cost, provided the request is made in writing.
- Refunds will be finalised within 30 days after the date of cancellation.
Refund Schedule:
- On or before 15 April 2026: Full refund (No penalty).
- 16 April - 16 May 2026: 50% cancellation fee applies.
- On or after 17 May 2026: 100% cancellation fee applies (No refunds).
Event Interruption and Force Majeure
D-school Afrika and University of Cape Town shall not be held liable for any delay or failure in performance of its obligations caused by events beyond its reasonable control. This includes, but is not limited to: acts of God, fire, flood, extreme weather, strikes, labor disputes, government regulations, war, terrorism, or public health emergencies.
In the event that the conference is cancelled, postponed, or moved to a virtual format due to Force Majeure:
- Cancellation: d-school Afrika will offer a refund of registration fees, minus any non-recoverable administrative and transaction costs.
- Postponement: Your registration will automatically be transferred to the new dates.
D-school Afrika is not responsible for any attendee travel or accommodation costs incurred due to such changes. We strongly recommend that attendees purchase individual travel insurance.
