The Tryst Kramerville

ABOUT

Suits & Sneakers hosts several events each month in Joburg, each featuring a different guest and theme. The idea is to create a space for ongoing learning that help you broaden your thinking in a fast changing world. This event will be hosted on the evening of Wednesday, 11 February, at The Tryst in Kramerville, with a livestream available for those not based in Johannesburg.

WHAT IS THIS EVENT ALL ABOUT?

Most people roll their eyes when they hear the word "happiness." They associate it with toxic positivity, holding hands, and singing "Kumbaya" while ignoring the harsh realities of life. This talk is the exact opposite of that.

This "Happiness isn't what you think" talk is a no-nonsense deep dive into building the emotional infrastructure and mental tools required to navigate a world that is becoming increasingly complex. Whether it is personal burnout or professional pressure, the goal isn't to "feel happy" all the time. Instead, it is to develop a sustainable framework for dealing with the messiness of life in a healthy way. If you like detail, you can get to know Mark better through the interview below.

Mark Sham first began developing this concept before the pandemic, sensing a growing crisis in workplace mental health. Today, those challenges have only amplified. This session is designed for anyone who feels the weight of modern living and for leaders who want to understand the direct link between a resilient, "happy" workforce and a profitable, high-performance company culture. We are going to reframe the difficulties of the last few years and provide you with a toolkit you didn't know you needed.

MORE ABOUT MARK SHAM

Mark Sham is the founder of Suits & Sneakers and a prominent voice in the South African entrepreneurship and personal development space. Known for his candid and often provocative approach to learning, Mark has spent over a decade building platforms that challenge the status quo of formal education.

Beyond the boardroom, Mark is a storyteller and an advocate for "acting like a tourist" in your own life. He is deeply committed to helping South Africans broaden their perspectives, whether through his large-scale keynote events, his "Like a Tourist" social media series, or his ongoing work to support the local small business ecosystem.
