ABOUT
The Seven & Eight Merchandise was created for a collaborative exhibition by artists Mr MediaX and Thobani K — a project rooted in memory, collaboration, cultural reclamation, and the sonic/visual histories that shape contemporary African expression. Hosted at The Library of Things We Forgot to Remember, the event drew inspiration from the archive’s rich collection of African vinyls and cultural artefacts. That energy, texture, and history directly informed the visual language of this merchandise. The collection reflects the artists’ shared journey: Mr MediaX, a multidisciplinary artist exploring African identity in the digital age, and Thobani K, an image maker whose work confronts land dispossession and water politics. These pieces are a continuation of that dialogue — wearable fragments of the “7 / 8” experience.
The collection consists of:
- Orange Gloves (A slow-fashion collaboration between Mr MediaX & Nala Majola)
- Orange Chicken Print (A5 photography print from a 2016 collaboration between Thobani K & Mr MediaX)
- Mzansidibayay Shirts (Limited edition shirts by Thobani K)
