Yonela Mnana presents Merging Is Emerging

Stepping from the stage’s proverbial wings to the fore, acclaimed jazz pianist and scholar Yonela Mnana presents Merging Is Emerging — a powerful bandleader showcase at Untitled Basement.

After years of shaping the sound of South African jazz as a sideman and collaborator, Mnana brings together a cross-generational ensemble to reflect his evolving musical voice. The performance revisits material from earlier projects while introducing new compositions from forthcoming releases, weaving jazz, improvisation, and storytelling into an intimate live experience.

The evening opens with a brief mediated conversation led by award-winning jazz radio veteran Brenda Sisane, setting the context for the music and the collaborative processes behind it.
