The Porchlights:
Hailing from the coastal enclave of Noordhoek, Cape Town, The Porchlights have spent years carving out a reputation as one of the South Peninsula's most captivating live acts. Eschewing the polished sheen of modern pop for something far more visceral, the band offers a unique blend of dark, sardonic country and high-energy folk that feels like a moonshine shot for the soul.
While their original storytelling is central to their identity, they are widely celebrated for their eclectic and reimagined covers. Their setlists pull from a deep well of Americana and folk influences.
Brett Newski:
Brett Newski is a Milwaukee-based indie-rocker, illustrator, and self-described "nomad" who has built one of the most resilient DIY careers in modern music. Known for his "loudest acoustic act ever" energy and a sharp, self-deprecating wit, Newski has played over 1,500 shows across six continents—often traveling by public transit and recording in everything from Vietnamese convenience stores to budget hostels.
Newski’s sound is a blend of 90s alternative, power-pop, and folk-punk, with influences ranging from the Violent Femmes and Weezer to the storytelling of Woody Guthrie. His lyrics often tackle "the dark stuff"—anxiety, depression, and social media addiction—but always through a lens of humor and grit.
NEWSKI has played with Pixies, Violent Femmes, Courtney Barnett, Gin Blossoms, Manchester Orchestra, Better than Ezra, Barenaked Ladies, & Nada Surf and has been featured in Rolling Stone, NPR, American Songwriter, SiriusXM, Boston Globe, NBC, Billboard and SPIN.
What others have said:
"You will leave the show thinking 'wow this is really not my thing', or 'THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE BAND." - Mike Mains
“I work at a venue, I’ve seen a million bands, I hate most of them, and I’m a grumpy fu#*. NEWSKI's live show is so great and well-dialed. He is great at what he does.” -Door Guy, Casbah, San Diego
"Showcases the unapologetically frank but not overly aggressive nature of 90s alt. rock perfectly." -American Songwriter
"I like the sound and the way he is forcing the world to contend with him." -Brian Ritchie, Violent Femmes
Nomadic Orchestra:
“We are Nomadic Orchestra! We play brass music, we play dance music, we play intelligent music, and we play dumb music. We play whatever music we want to play and that’s okay because you come anyway.”
This motley crew of music nerds, fondly referred to as “The Nomads,” hail from the South African College of Music (UCT) in Cape Town and all have a deep passion for music performance and composition. The music keeps dance and groove at the centre of its inspiration and borrows from many different styles. Hip hop, afrobeat, ghoema, samba, ska, klezmer and various other sounds are blended into one cohesive, high-energy performance.
The primary goal of The Nomads is to get people moving. The band plays an infectious kind of high-energy dance music guaranteed to get feet tapping and limbs swaying. With three full-length studio albums, many successful tours, festivals and events on their resume, the band strives to create top-quality original music for all.
