VOLKSRUST

ABOUT

This retreat is anchored in fluidity, creativity and deep feeling. It is an invitation to return to your inner well, soften effort, and reconnect with the quiet intelligence of your body and senses.

We begin with an audio guided walking meditation through the magnificent gardens of Volksrust Farm, written and recorded by Lisa and her mother, Esmé, who holds a Master’s degree in Mindfulness and Meditation. As you move through living beauty, you are guided into presence and receptivity.

From there, we enter a restorative Sound Healing Journey with Mary Maatouk, where singing bowls, crystal bowls and gongs calm the nervous system and invite balance and renewal.

Sculptor Maritza Breitenbach then leads a tactile clay session, encouraging you to slow down and shape what is stirring within. Refreshments are served before we gather for a shared harvest meal.

Your Facilitators:

Lisa Kriek is a yoga teacher devoted to lived practice. For over 15 years she has immersed herself in yoga and mindfulness, embodying the work rather than simply studying it. Her teaching is grounded, intelligent and quietly powerful, shaped by a double yoga facilitator qualification and a deep respect for the nervous system, breath and inner awareness.

With a background in law, Lisa translates complex philosophy into language that is clear, accessible and felt, weaving structure with softness.

Mary Maatouk is a Sound Healing Practitioner and Yin Yoga Teacher with a background in pharmaceutical sciences.

After years of working in the pharmaceutical field, she chose to change career paths, guided by her desire to support health at its roots. Her work focuses on preventative, integrative healing, using sound vibration to calm the nervous system, reduce stress and anxiety, and support the body’s natural capacity to heal. Mary’s approach is grounded in the belief that balance, presence, and inner harmony are essential foundations for long-term health.

Maritza Breitenbach is a South African sculptor, creative facilitator, author, and speaker based in Stellenbosch. With an academic background spanning from a BSc (Biokineticist) to a teaching diploma to a Master’s degree in Philosophy (Biomedical Ethics), she brings both analytical insight and intuitive playfulness to her art.

Her bronze sculptures are displayed in galleries and admired worldwide. For Maritza, clay is where physicality and spirituality meet—“where thoughts, dreams and ideas turn into tangible things.” She describes her creative process as reconnecting with childlike freedom through raw, tactile engagement, unburdened by overthinking. As a facilitator, she guides participants to slow down, play, and listen through their hands, with the belief that the clay becomes a mirror to our breath, rhythm and inner landscape.
