Founder Story: Versus Socks – From Stellenbosch Startup to Global Sportswear Brand
19 March | 13h00 - 14h30 | Innovation City Cape Town
Join us for an energised Founder Story session featuring Hanno Lategan, co-founder of Versus Socks, in conversation with Tshego Ramatlo, Investment Manager at Investec Wealth & Investment, and Tarryn Pinchen, Regional Head of Business Transactional Banking at Investec.
Founded in Stellenbosch in 2015 by Hanno Lategan and Jurgens Uys, Versus Socks was born out of a simple frustration: the sports socks on the market were uninspired, low-quality, and didn’t reflect the personality of the athletes wearing them. What started as a passion project has grown into a bold performance brand known for its distinctive designs, durability, and strong presence across cycling, running, and endurance sport communities.
In this conversation, Hanno shares the journey from idea to brand; what it took to spot the gap, build a product people genuinely love, and grow a business rooted in both performance and identity. Tshego brings an investor’s perspective on backing founders and spotting scalable potential, while Tarryn adds insight from the banking side on supporting entrepreneurs as they grow, fund, and structure their businesses.
Expect a grounded, practical discussion about building a consumer brand in South Africa, navigating growth, and the realities behind turning a focused idea into a recognisable name.
