Cape Town’s iconic ballroom celebration returns with a night dedicated to love, pride, and chosen family.

WHAT IS BALLROOM?

Ballroom culture, also known as Ball Culture, was born in the 1980s within New York’s Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ communities. It emerged as a powerful response to exclusion, creating a space where people could be seen, celebrated, and free to express themselves.

Today, ballroom is a global movement celebrating identity, resilience, fashion, performance, and community. Participants “walk” in categories ranging from high fashion to dance performance, competing for trophies, prizes, and cultural recognition.

We celebrate queer and trans individuals, women, femme-presenting people, and allies. Whether you're walking a category, cheering from the sidelines, or living your best life at the afterparty, you are welcome here.

BEST DRESSED: Evening Wear OTA

Suits and gowns! You are competing in the most prestigious pageant event and you want to take home the Grand Prize. Bring your best pageant-inspired evening wear to the runway. Elegance, glamour, and excellence are a must. Show the judges that you are the ultimate pageant fantasy!

VOGUE PERFORMANCE: Hands Performance for your 10s | OTA Embellished Hands

It’s time to tell a story with your hands! Bring your most crystallized, embellished gloves to the floor and serve Hands Performance for your 10s. After that, be ready to battle through the elements for the Grand Prize. The question is… can you Vogue Hands Down?

LIP SYNC PERFORMANCE OTA

Do you think you can match your mouth to a Pageant Classic? Then step up and prepare for the ultimate Lip Sync Smackdown!

Contestants will draw 1 of 5 songs from the hat. Precision, drama, and star power are key!

BODY: Swimsuit OTA

Is your body TEA? It’s swimsuit season, and your body is the canvas! Bring a pageant-worthy swimsuit look that highlights your physique, confidence, and charisma. Show the judges that your body deserves the crown!

FACE: Pageant Hair & Makeup OTA

Create a pageant hair and makeup look fit for a winner! Think glamour, beauty, and perfection from head to toe. Remember what they say: the bigger the hair… the taller the crown sits. Let the judges see the face of a champion!

ABOUT LEGACY

LEGACY is a love letter to the late Kirvan Fortuin, also known as Kirvan Le Cap, founding mother of the House of Le Cap and a pioneer of African ballroom culture.

Co-created by Rori Bingham and produced by Edition Events, LEGACY was designed as a safe, joyful, and affirming space for Cape Town’s trans-feminine and gender non-conforming communities.

LEGACY stands on three pillars:

• Celebrating Kirvan Le Cap’s visionary legacy

• Honouring the journey of the House of Le Cap

• Growing Cape Town’s ballroom community

LEGACY is not just an event. It is history, culture, and future vision in motion.
