ABOUT

School Holiday - Studio Takeover at The House of Yay

School holidays don’t need to mean screens, malls, or boredom. For one week, The House of Yay is opening its doors to ages 14-18 and handing over the space for a dedicated Studio Takeover — a series of relaxed, creative morning experiences designed just for them.

Each day offers a different hands-on creative session where teens can explore, experiment, and express themselves in a welcoming, pressure-free environment. This isn’t about being “good at art” or producing a perfect result, it’s about trying something new, building confidence, and enjoying the process of making.

Parents are welcome to drop off before work or join in if they’d like. Our central location, calm morning setting, and guided sessions make this an easy, enriching holiday option that gives you something meaningful (and genuinely fun) to look forward to.

Studio Takeover – Parent FAQ

We know handing over your teenager for a holiday activity comes with questions. Here’s everything you need to know about Studio Takeover at The House of Yay.

Who is Teen Takeover for?

Studio Takeover is designed for teenagers aged 14–18. The sessions are created specifically with teens in mind — relaxed, creative, and age-appropriate. No younger children are permitted.

What happens during the sessions?

Each morning features a different guided creative experience. While the activity changes daily, the focus stays the same: creativity, self-expression, and having fun in a supportive, low-pressure environment. No prior art experience is needed.

Is this supervised?

Yes. All sessions are hosted and supervised by the House of Yay team. Teens are guided throughout the experience, with clear structure and boundaries, while still being given space to explore and create independently.

Can parents drop off or stay?

Both options are welcome. Parents may drop teens off before work or choose to stay and participate. Our central location makes Studio Takeover an easy fit into busy holiday schedules.

What’s the vibe?

Friendly, relaxed, and inclusive. This is not a formal class or a high-pressure art workshop. There’s no grading, no competition, and no expectation to “get it right.” The aim is confidence, creativity, and connection.

Is The House of Yay a safe space?

Absolutely. The House of Yay is a welcoming, creative studio environment designed to encourage self-expression while maintaining respectful behaviour and clear guidelines.

Do we need to bring anything?

All materials are provided unless otherwise stated. Comfortable clothing is recommended — creativity can get a little messy.
